Introduction

Randy Johnson’s 303 career wins put him among the top five greatest pitchers in the history of the game, and only Nolan Ryan struck out more batters. Throughout his career, Johnson won every pitchers award there was to win: 5 Cy Young Awards, a World Series MVP, and the Triple Crown. He pitched a no-hitter in 1990 and then one-upped himself by pitching a perfect game in 2004. Simply put, as long as he took the mound, Randy Johnson was the most dominant left-hander in the game. When there was no other award to win or record to shatter, The Big Unit called it a career.

In 2009, The Big Unit was etching closer to the vaunted 300-win mark for his career. During his May 27th start, Johnson earned the win to come within a game of 300. His 299th career win was at the expense of the Atlanta Braves as he pitched 6 innings, allowing only 3 hits and 1 earned run during the Giants 6-3 victory. Presented here are the very cleats worn by Johnson when he recorded his fourth win of the 2009 season and 299th of his Hall of Fame career. These all-black Nike Air high-top cleats are a size 13 and have five metal spikes on each of the soles. The Nike swoosh is in white on both the instep and outstep and are made of a combination of leather and synthetic material. Johnsons number 51 is embroidered in white on both of the heels, and these cleats show excellent use with a hole on the inner toe area of the left cleat. Johnson has signed each of these shoes in bold silver marker and inscribed #299 below each of his signatures.
